The circular economy is a trend

The circular economy is not a style, but an emerging trend that is more often incorporated by companies, considering being seen as something of social responsibility and integrating it as part of the new business model.

To affirm that it is a style does not manifest what it really is: a transformation of a linear economy with more than 150 years in operation, which on many occasions has not been the right one for sustainability, towards a circular economy model that many companies they have been taking as a source of opportunities to innovate and create added value.

Some examples of why it is not a style

To share some data as an example of other regions such as Europe, I will share the philosophy of the 7R’s circular economy:

These are the bases of the 7R’s “renew, redesign, reuse, reduce, recycle, repair, and recover” are taken into account, for example, in Madrid (Spain) where they have a very advanced plan regarding “zero waste” based on the 7R of the circular economy through the “Waste Strategy 2017-2024” which has been allocated a budget of at least three hundred and sixty million euros and which has been implemented by the Federation of Municipalities of Madrid and Ecoembes, it should be noted that the latter is the founder of “The Circular Lab” that has been recognized as the first laboratory of circular innovation in Spain.

Similarly in other places that are very clear that the circular economy is not a style and consider it as the virtuous circle, so much so that in the European Union EU have been adopted a series of measures to support companies on the one hand on the other, the consumers of this continent in the transition from a linear economy to a circular economy.

On the one hand we have the general framework of the fight against climate change in the “Paris Agreement” that is going to enter into force in 2021, and despite the fact that the objectives that they have focus mostly on the reduction of emissions, since the world leaders have mapped the circular economy and it is clear that it is not a style but a necessity, and that it is urgent to make the transition from the linear to the circular economy, since it is clear that the linear economy considers is to extract, produce and discard, the circular economy maintains at its base “being as a natural ecosystem of our planet”.

The principle that was adapted during millions of years is not to produce waste, that is, to recycle the waste in order to leave the planet free of waste.

This becomes more important if we add that it is clear to the world powers that the resources we have on the planet are increasingly scarce and will therefore have to leave negative traces and take positive measures through this model, in order to extend the duration of scarce resources for as long as possible.

With this purpose in mind, in the European Union they have a broad budget to apply a series of measures in this context of more than six hundred and fifty million euros within the “Horizon 2020” program and also another budget item of five thousand five hundred million euros. euros corresponding to the structural funds for waste management and investment in the framework of the circular economy

With the measures that have been implemented in this continent it is clear that the circular economy is not treated as a style but as the need that effectively represents for our planet and within this context that is going through it is urgent that as in Europe, in Latin America is given greater attention and importance to the circular economy.

How to redesign everything?

The methodology of innovation that is revolutionizing business has also been inserted in this new model of economy to seek to respond, it can be said that the sustainable architecture of the future involves applying the concepts of circular economy to achieve buildings adaptable to the environment and “Positive Impact”, that is, that not only consume less or produce less waste, but that imply positive effects on its occupants.
